Our newest Patron Kate Rusby is a talented folk singer, songwriter and musician. Barnsley born and bred she is proud to represent the beautiful county of Yorkshire wherever she travels to perform.
Kate recently received the Honorary Freedom of the Borough of Barnsley saying at the ceremony:
“I am utterly overwhelmed and delighted to have been made a Freeman of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, the very place on this earth that I love and adore the most”.
Hot on the heels of receiving this honour she was invited to be a Patron of EnRich Charity.
Kate knew Rich T and was also a student at Barnsley College. She values the creativity which is alive and well in the town and said: “I’m really pleased to become a Patron of this Barnsley charity in memory of a lovely man.”
Folk music was in Kate’s blood from the day she was born and as she grew up she graduated from family sing-alongs with her siblings in the back of the car to performing herself – solo, as a duo with friend and fellow EnRich Patron Kathryn Roberts plus stints as a singer with Equation and the all-female Celtic folksters, The Poozies.
Her gorgeous vocals and creative, interpretative approach have helped Kate develop a strong, faithful following and a career spanning decades. She recognises her family’s influence on her journey and how lucky she has been to have that support as not everyone is so fortunate.
Kate added: “EnRich is helping local people follow their creative dreams and reach for the stars. I’m really pleased to support the hard work the Charity is doing giving those who want the chance to shine the opportunity to do so.”
