Kathryn Roberts

Kathryn-Roberts-thumbTalented vocalist and musician Kathryn Roberts is also proud to be a Patron of the charity.

Kathryn said: “I am delighted to be able to support EnRich as Richard worked so tirelessly to inspire and promote Music and Performing Arts in Barnsley”. Her story includes music-making with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers and Kate Rusby and Kathryn and her husband Sean Lakeman have established themselves as pillars of modern British folk with their award-winning duo.

A lauded singer, one of the finest of her generation, Kathryn is held in the highest regard by peers and music fans alike. Born and raised in Barnsley, Kathryn has been singing since she could speak. Her musical parents took great delight in introducing her to many types of music including a regular summer trawl of folk festivals. This ensured a life-long love of traditional song and also introduced her to some of the finest young talent on the British folk scene.

An early duo career with fellow Barnsleyite Kate Rusby led to much critical acclaim and an award-winning album. This partnership led swiftly to the teaming up with three brothers from West Devon and the folk-pop band ‘Equation’ was born. Many years fronting the band saw Kathryn grace exotic stages all over the world, five years of which were spent almost exclusively in the US. After a decade of relentless touring Kathryn and Sean decided to return to their English roots and gig as an acoustic duo. They were the winners of the Best Duo category in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2013.

Kathryn added: “I hope that my involvement can raise the Charity’s profile and this may help to provide opportunities for people living and studying in the Barnsley area. I am really absolutely thrilled to be a Patron.”
